WEANING : THE BASICS

Hello readers!
I'm so I'm so MIA these days.. motherhood has me by the throat. I tell you it never gets easy especially if you're living alone.
It was MOMMY MONDAYS yesterday and I thought ill share a piece I wrote few months back with you. It's on WEANING. Now weaning can be of two types.. from breastfeed to normal milk or the introduction of solids.
When you're finally settling into motherhood.. and making a routine.. its time to wean and then starts a more tedious process. This here is just an introduction on how to go about it.
I hope it helps you somehow.

WEANING

Motherhood. . A single word encompassing: sacrifice, joy, fear, tears, sadness, love, struggles.. Life. Once you're in it there's no going back. Life does a 180, your time becomes some one else's, your life becomes someone else's, for you nothing is important enough than your kids, they are your priority. All these responsibilities though tough, are thoroughly rewarding.

Once a mother gets used to taking care of a little one and has settled in a routine finally, comes the biggest task... WEANING. After you get over the shock that your little one is growing up so fast that it's already time to introduce solids.. you may have alot of questions.

Weaning is anything but easy, but needs to be done properly so that your little one can develop good eating habits that'll be part of them as they grow up.

Weaning is basically the process of introducing solids to a baby. Now as per the WHO standards the advised age to start weaning is 6 months. This may vary depending on your kids general health and weight. Your baby's doctor is best to advise when to start weaning but it can be anywhere from 4-8 months. It is best to start solids once the baby is able to sit unsupported atleast for sometime.

After you get the go ahead from the doctor, you might ask what to start with? Well the first foods are basically any milk based food. Lots of doctors prefer to start with Rice Cereal/Cerelac. It is easier on their little digestive systems and also rice rarely is a cause of allergy. You can also start with bananas mashed and thinned in the milk you give them. Remember that the little ones don't know yet how to swallow properly, so give them foods with a little thin consistency. Over time you can increase the lumpiness so that they get used to swallowing and are quickly shifted to normal table food, after all making purees is hard work and babies need to be trained into eating thick consistency else switching them over will get difficult and they'll gag on the slightest lump.

Sooji( semolina) is also a good nutritious food. But see how your little one reacts to rice cereal first, as sooji being a hard grain can be a bit tough to digest.

Start with tiny spoonfuls first. After the little one has their morning feed, at the time of next feed introduce the solid. Also give as much as the little one takes. If they close their mouth after 2-3 spoonfuls, stop. This is the most important advice I can give, NEVER force feed, you'll end up raising a fussy eater/ someone who would HATE food. Also "solids before one is just for fun", it's only to get the little ones into habit of eating and nothing more. Babies before one need all their nutrition from milk.

Increase those spoonfuls little by little over the next couple of days if your little one is okay. Increase quantity with age.
Always give new foods at daytime, so that if God forbid there's any allergy etc. You can easily go to hospital, and before starting anything new, continue the same food for 3 consecutive days so as to eliminate any allergens.

Start giving 1-2 oz water with the solids, as the baby reaches 8-9 months or in hot weather you can also increase this amount. Another thing to note is that the milk intake might decrease after introduction of solids. That's not an issue, as long as the baby is gaining weight and is happy/ healthy. Within a month of introducing solids, you can increase to two meals per day, and within a month of that, 3 meals. Remember it's not necessary that they eat bowl fulls, whatever they are happy with, and if after half an hour to 1 hour the baby is still hungry, you can give milk.

The best guide to what foods need to be introduced when is your doctor. Also there are countless charts present on Google. Remember egg whites and nuts are serious allergens so be careful when giving them and best introduce these after 1 year. Same goes for whole milk.

Give as many nutritional foods as you can, fresh homemade fruit and vegetable purees, rice in chicken stock etc. But if you're out and have no alternative then no harm in giving cerelacs and bottled foods, just keep them to the minimum.

Last but not the least, take care of yourself, do NOT stress. Take things slowly. Like all the other seemingly tough phases, this too shall pass soon and you'll have your little one eating with you at the table. So relax, breathe and remember: A happy mom equals a happy baby.

To update you guys my little one is 1 year and 3 months today and eats everything with us MashAllah :)
Oh and a very important point, when they are teething they can go on a hunger strike, and may stop taking solids altogether. Remember it's okay.. give them milk and easy chewable stuff to ease them with the teething. :)

Well hope it helped you guys.. especially the new moms and moms to be, best of luck with it. I shall see you all very soon inshaALLAH.
Take care and lots of love,
Regards,
Dr. Mom Chef xx

BRAND LAUNCH OF COOL & COOL ON KAYMU.PK

Hello readers :)
Today we are back with our SHARE IT! SATURDAYS.

I love online shopping. I mean it's so easy to select stuff while sitting in the comfort of your home and then paying on delivery. The best shopping experience if you ask me.
Kaymu.pk is one of Pakistan's largest and trusted online shopping platform. It caters to many brands and recently they have launched a new brand on their website, Cool & Cool.

Hence, kaymu.pk sent me a few of Cool & Cool products as part of their brand launch for review.

I personally really like Cool & Cool. Their products are really good quality while being easy on the pocket and I was pleased to hear that kaymu.pk is now launching Cool & Cool products on their website. Oh but theres more.... The entire line of Cool & Cool products is on 10% off because of the launch!!!

Now let's talk about the products.
The items I received were from their baby care range, as follows:

1) Cool & Cool baby oil
2) Cool & Cool baby mist
3) Cool & Cool baby wipes
4) Cool & Cool baby safe buds

Now the baby products really hits home. As a mom I'm always out there looking for safe and good quality products which I can personally safely use and I'm happy to say I tried all 4 of them and I'm more than satisfied :D so yayy for finding a good reliable baby care brand. Let me share with you a little about the products.

1) Cool & Cool baby oil:

I really liked it. The oil is not sticky at all. It contains Vitamin E, chamomile and almond oil. And it smells great too. I applied it before giving my baby a bath... and after the bath her skin was so soft and supple and smelled great too. So a big thumbs up for the product. I honestly found it better than the brand I was using.

2) Cool & Cool mist:

Like you all know using talcum powder on babies is discouraged. So a good alternative is baby mists. They are very gentle on the skin... alcohol free and the best way to apply them is a little spray on baby clothes and your baby will smell beautiful. I don't like overpowering scents on babies.. because the natural baby scent is beautiful as it is... and the thing that I really like about this scent was that it was really close to the natural baby scent. Hence perfect for me... so this product will always be in my baby bag.

3) Cool & Cool baby wipes:

These were great. The sheets were soft for the baby's skin, and not too thin. I don't like paper thin sheets because then everything gets on the hand. These were good. Remember baby wipes can also be used for other stuff such as wiping making off... so this is a must have product.

4) Cool & Cool baby safe buds:

My personal favourite. Remember how it's told not to use cotton buds on baby ears as you may insert it deep and push the wax further..? But you also worry about cleanliness and hygiene and atleast want to get the water out from their ears so they don't develop an ear infection God forbid. Well these are perfect. These baby buds are built to not go deep, so they are kind of like safety buds. They will effectively clean the superior part without going much deep and no chances of accidental injuries too.

I really enjoyed reviewing and trying out these products. Cool & Cool was always a favourite even before I became a mom. I loved their hand sanitisers and beauty care products too and now that I've tried their baby range.. my faith in them as a brand has strengthened.

Thank you once again kaymu.pk for sending me products for review and also for launching Cool & Cool. I'm sure we love the variety of different brands and products when doing online shopping. I wish you alot of success with the brand launch campaign.

And readers don't forget. . You get 10 % off flat!!! On the entire Cool & Cool product line on kaymu.pk. So hurry up and order online and easily pay on delivery.

That's it from me for today guys.
I'll see you all on my next post. Till then have an awesome weekend.
Regards,

THE KEY TO KEEP YOUR COOL

Hello readers! :)
We're back after a long break. Hope I find you all in good health.
Today's post is on a much needed issue. Recently I have starting moderating a group and have alot of people commend me on my patience and ask how I keep my cool in tricky situations.
Well... Thank you guys.. but I'm only human, naturally I loose it at times too, but I try to stretch my threshold to the max.
As a child and teen, I was a pretty worked up and short tempered individual. . As age started to happen :) I grew relatively calm.
Since a calm patient personality is key to a happy life.. I've decided to share what works for me.
So before we go into HOW TO BE CALM in hot situations let's first try to AVOID them. Here's how:

HOW TO AVOID HEATED ARGUMENTS

1) STAYING QUIET:
This is the most difficult part. But if you're in an argument and the other person starts shouting or is angry beyond reasoning. Stay quiet. It'll be difficult. . But bite your tongue.. because whatever you say at that moment will only aggravate it.
If one is quiet and one is shouting/talking.. its not really an argument right?
Give them time to cool down and then very civilly present your point of view.
The other person will respect you more.. and will definitely listen to you this way because they will be embarrassed for their reaction too.

2) IS IT WORTH IT?
Think about it..? Is the argument worth it? Was it personal or just a random thing..? Countless times we react on things not even worth the bitterness they cause. Take a step back and analyse and then decide your stance.

Let's say all of the above failed and despite not wanting it you're stuck in a bad scenario. An argument, a fight.. A heated debate. Here how you can still try to remain calm.

HOW TO REMAIN CALM AND INCREASE PATIENCE:

1) COUNT TILL 10:
If you feel your rage coming over. Simply forget everything and count till 10. Slowly. Breathe in and out with every number. Feel the anger draining out with each exhale and positivity coming in with each inhale.

2) DO THEY REALLY MEAN IT:
Sometimes people say hurtful or bad things in the gist of the moment. They don't mean any of it on the contrary they regret saying it the moment it comes out of their mouth. Think what will they gain by hurting you? Why would they say it..? Would they gain anything?
Give others the benefit if the doubt.. sometimes they are having a bad day, and you've just given them an outlet. I assure you until and unless they have a grudge against you.. They will come and apologise once they've cooled.

3) AM I OVER REACTING:
Step back and think... was getting into this debate an over reaction? Was it this big of a deal..? Sometimes the emotions get the best of us and you end up in the sticky situation even if you didn't want to be in it in the first place.

4) LEAVE:
If you feel everything failing.. and that your control is slipping.. its better to leave the place. Get a grip.. calm down and get back to talk it out like adults.

5) LEARN TO DETACH:
This is my personal favourite although I still need to work on it. The more you feel something emotionally.. The more strongly you'll react. So..? Learn to detach your emotions in such situations. Don't take things personally.

6) ISLAMIC STANCE:
Anger is discouraged in Islam. It advises you to stay quiet. And if standing, sit down and if sitting lie down. Also to have a glass of water and say Astagfaar. All of these things are miraculously effective. Only if we remember to practice them in the heat of the moment.

Remember life is too short to waste on the negatives. A positive happy go lucky life is what's needed in today's stressed out world. Positive people are fun to be with. . They uplift the mood of the whole group.
Practice these points.. They will surely take time but I assure you.. you will definitely feel more calm.. and more at peace.
Always be kind to one another.. everyone is fighting battles. Give people chances. Leave judgment on God. Exude positivity.
A positive calm life.. is a happy life.
Stay happy loves.

HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD : A REVIEW

Hello readers!
So SHARE IT! SATURDAYS was suffering a bit due to my busy schedule.. but this week I'm. Back with something that's really close to my heart. :)
I've been a potterhead since the first book came out. like so.many belonging to my generation, Harry Potter is literally my childhood. I grew up with it.
The excitement of getting hands on a new part was nothing but a solid adrenaline rush.
And when it ended I wished I could "obliviate" myself and re read it again and again.
So you can imagine how it must've felt when an EIGHT BOOK was announced.
People were all crazy after it.. booming pre orders and what not.
But me.. I waited a little.. ordered late. . Didn't kept my expectations high.
As expected after a day the Internet went crazy. Headlines such as JK ROWLING owes us a book were plastered all over social media. The biggest let down people had? It's a script not a book.
Well... no offence guys but it says so. . On the cover page.

My review of HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD :

I read it literally like a script.. With a movie playing in my mind.. and so it worked for me.
Yes the book lacks Rowlings touch. . Those pages long descriptions of scenes and emotions. Those character sketches.. ofcourse it's not the same.. but we were wrong to expect it to be in the first place.
The story itself is pretty interesting. The new characters are strong and original.
Yes there were a few loopholes.. A few parts unexplained. (Looking at you polyjuice potion) but it did justice to old characters as far as I'm concerned. Call me bias.. but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

I don't know about you guys.. but I would rather fancy this being turned into a movie... I mean the script is right there guys. :D

The potterhead in me is in forever denial.. and will always be hoping for a new book, but yes this did satisfy the years long craving.
On a scale of 1 - 10 I will rate it a 7.5.
Read it guys... trust me it's not as bad as it's made out to be.

Until next time.
Regards,
Dr. Mom Chef xx

OLIVIA SHUKRIA

Hello to all my readers,

The feel of Independence Day is still in the air and what better way to celebrate independence then by promoting one of our own local brand, Olivia.

When I think of Olivia I remember my childhood, I remember my grandmothers using it, then my mom and it's still going strong at my time.

Olivia is a Pakistani heritage in a sense, with its old bond and progression with the country itself it has come out as a leading Pakistani brand in beauty products and cosmetics.
The introduction and a little about the company history is as follows:

"Olivia Cosmetics began its operations in 1982 under the dynamic leadership of the Chairman and Founder, Abdul Wahid Maskatiya, with the key aim of developing a local brand that met international standards using only the highest grade imported materials. The same year Olivia also launched a massive campaign to market the brand, including a video showcasing 100 of the most beautiful women in the world.

Olivias factory setup and an interview with a reputable beautician were also shared to create awareness about the brand, whilst a professional cosmetologist was brought on board to develop formulae suitable for the climatic conditions of Pakistan. Bleach Creams, Depilatory Creams, Make-Up sticks, Body Lotions, Talcum Powders and Hair Dyes were subsequently introduced and enjoy great popularity. We kept expanding with breakthroughs in beauty cosmetics like Olivia Kajal and now Face Wash.

Olivia Cosmetics is now registered by Bureau Veritas for HALAL Certification, ISO (9001:2008) certification and GMP certification.

Olivia is known to be the "Beauty Brand Of Filmstars". Bollywood stars like Bipasha Basu, Nargis Fakhri, Aditi Rao Hydari and Shruti Haasan have endorsed our products and Pakistan's top star, Mehwish Hayat is currently the face of Olivia.

As Olivia grows, it embraces new challenges and continues to innovate, to better meet the beauty needs of an ever-growing number of satisfied consumers."

Not only is Olivia one of the oldest brands, it's also a pioneer. It's specifically setup for us Pakistani clients keeping our skin and our climate in mind.

Recently Olivia has ventured into the market of face wash and launched a 100% soap free face wash. The Neem & Lemon Face Wash. The smell of it is just enough to send you on fresh feel glory. It's great for an everyday face wash. Keeps the pores unclogged, removes excess oil, without over drying the skin and is very gentle. If you have pimples or are breaking out, this will help bring them to surface quickly and then clear them out.
The overall feel after using it is fresh and you can actually feel your skin breathe.
Honestly I wasn't expecting a local brand face wash to turn out so good.
Priced at Rs.70, it's available in a 60ml packaging throughout Pakistan. Try it out ladies and I hope you'll be as satisfied as me.

So with launching a new product Olivia revived another one.
The trademark green and black Waterproof Creamy Make-Up Stick of Olivia is how many of us remember it.
It's revived with a trademark seal to prevent the many counterfeit products in the market.
This Water Proof Creamy Make-Up Stick comes in 12 shades, perfect with our Pakistani skin tone. The shades vary between pink and yellow undertones which I love. One shade "Pearl White 07" is perfect for use as a highlighter.
The creamy formula is the same that is years old now. It provides excellent coverage and like our famous celebrity Reema said it is truly "Make-Up in a minute". It blends beautifully with the skin and can be used for a natural look as well as a more heavy look. The best way to use is to dab all over the face and blend with the help of a wet sponge. The result is flawless.

You can recognise the original product with the Olivia "Original" embossed seal and trust that you are using the original.
Priced at Rs. 130, these Make-Up sticks are available all over Pakistan.
So not only are both the products made to international standards, they are also easy on the pocket and so within the reach of an average Pakistani. Now that's a True Pakistani brand.

In today's time when everything is imported, such products by our local brands are a breath of fresh air. I personally love to endorse our local brands and artists as a first if they meet all the criteria of a good brand.

So glad that Olivia chose me to represent them like this. I wish it tons of success in the future and may they keep bringing us great high standard products.

Looking forward for more.
Olivia shukria.
Warm regards,
Dr. Mom Chef xx

OR
500 gm boneless chicken cubes
(marinate the chicken in the following ingredients for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight)
- 1 tbsp tandoori masala
- 6 tbsp yoghurt, fresh and whipped well
- 1 tspsalt
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- 1 tsp garlic paste (I use ginger garlic)

OTHER INGREDIENTS:

- 2-3 tomatoes
- 1-2 tbsp tomato puree/paste(optional)
- 1 onion, sliced and fried until golden

METHOD :

- Cook the marinated chicken without adding any additional water. When the chicken becomes tender and little gravy is left, turn the flame off and let it cool.
You can even separate bones if you wish now.

- Fry onions till golden brown in oil. Take them out once done.

- In the same oil add all whole spices, fry a little.

- Meanwhile blend together; tomatoes, fried onions (save some for garnish), coriander and green chillies.

- Add this blended mixture to the fried whole spices. Fry a little on slow flame and also add the gravy from chicken.

- When the gravy gets a little thick, add chicken too. Let cook for 10 minutes.

- At the end add lemon juice and sprinkle all spice powder. This is done.

For Rice:

- Boil rice normally just add a little yellow colour or saffron.

Assembly:

- In a dish add rice. On top of which add the chicken gravy, leave sides for fried potatoes and boiled eggs.

- Garnish with brown onions and coriander and serve.

Enjoy. :)

CRISPY FRIED CHICKEN by KNORR : As easy as ABC

Hello to all my readers and Eid mubarak in advance :)
I'm working on my fb page currently to make this blog bigger and better for you guys 😍😍😍
InshaALLAH.
Few days back KNORR sent me a beautiful Ramzan gift box which consisted of Knorr ketchup and chilli garlic sauce (the only sauce I eat) and packs of nugget and crispy fried chicken mixes, a handy recipe book with lots of different recipes for the mixes and a beautiful table runner from Khaadi home!!
So first of all, thank you KNORR for this lovely gesture. Made my day. :)
Then I just had to make their Crispy Fried Chicken Mix. . And like I previously also blogged about it being of my essential all time favourite kitchen item.. I tried it again but with a twist this time :)
Followed the exact same recipe on the back of the pack... it has literally the easiest directions to follow :) but I used boneless chicken breast pieces instead which you can pair up with buns (Yummy zinger) or with rice in my case (crispy chicken Steak :D).
I served it with my favourite KNORR chilli garlic sauce (4 tbsp) + KNORR ketchup (2tbsp) and let me tell you it was a delight.
The coating was perfectly crispy.. The chicken was juicy and the spice mix was just PERFECT.
This is a must try guys... make crispy broasts. . Make crispy burgers.. heck even fry half boiled potato fries in the mix... it'll taste out of the world.
Do give it try guys and like always update me :)
Thank you so much all of you.. and KNORR.
Happy chaand raat and eid mubarak in advance.
Lots of love,
Dr. Mom Chef xx

The relief from this heat was much needed and Abbottabad was beautiful.
Let's get to this week's TASTY THURSDAYS and also I promise to be regular from now :*
So... do you guys have a guilty pleasure..? Something you just can't resist and then can't stop counting calories afterwards? Lol well for me they are these ABSOLUTELY DIVINE LEMON BARS. I mean what not to love about them?!
Buttery crumbly crust with soft sweet and tangy lemon curd... YUMMAYYY <3
I can't eat the whole batch in one go... that's how kuch I love them.. Took the recipe from a couple of sites on the net. . But did a few alternations and voila. . Masterpiece.
You can easily store these beauties in a cool place and in an container.. but I'm sure they won't last more than a couple of days ;)
So let's get on with it... would love some feedback and hope you all enjoy <3
Much love to all!
Regards,
Dr. Mom Chef xx

Recipe is as follows:

INGREDIENTS :
- 1 cup butter, softened ( I used salted)
- 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp white sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
- 4 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup of lemon juice.

METHOD :
- Preheate oven to 350 F (175 C)

- In a bowl blend together softened butter, 2 cups flour and 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp sugar. I blended initially then kneaded a little by hand and when it comes together press into an ungraded 9×13 inch pan. (I used a square pan and used foil)

- Bake the crust for 15-20 min or until it's firm and golden.

- In a separate bowl whisk together 1 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup lemon juice, 1/4 cup flour. Add eggs one by one and whisk well.

- Pour over the baked crust and bake for further 15-20 min in the preheated oven. The bars will firm up as they cool, also the curd will remain soft.

- Cut into squares or bars once they cool up a little and dust with icing sugar.

NOTE :
- Adjust sweetness and tanginess to your liking.
- Used freshly squeezed lemon juice preferably.
- Dust with icing sugar for the final look.
- If using unsalted butter add a pinch of salt in the crust.

Enjoy!!

P.S:
I've been getting alot of messages about how you guys are unable to follow the blog.. I don't know what I've missed.. I'm pretty technologically challenged lol so please excuse me. But very soon inshaALLAH our Facebook page will be up so you guys can follow that for blog updates. :D

WONDERBOX: DISCOVER. CREATE. LEARN.

Hello readers and welcome to Mommy Mondays! Today I bring you mommies a treat!
How many of us as children wanted to build stuff like little projects which we can create? I for one always wanted my very own DIY kits. I used to see kids having these amazing chemistry sets and science sets which had these mini puzzles that needed to be solved along with instructions and I was really fascinated.
Now that I'm a mommy.. ofcourse I want the same curiosity for my LO especially during today's technology advanced era full of gadgets and whatnot I truly believe kids need to go back to basics. . Away from screen time and explore their creative side and stimulate their thinking process.
Which brings me to my latest find!
Wonderbox. :)

Wonderbox is basically a box comprising of DIY puzzles... every box comes with full instructions and materials. I contacted one of the mastermind behind the project and asked her some details so I can spread the news to mommies around me.. and with summer vacations around the corner.. I think it's the best time.. :D
So let's get to it shall we.

What's Wonderbox all about?
Wonder Box is a science and crafts kit for children aged 7 – 14. We aim to promote tactile learning and scientific literacy through project based learning methods. Each kit contains a mixture of science and DIY crafts project materials along with a project guide.
Children learn best when they are actively engaged and experience firsthand the concepts they learn about in text books. The Wonder Box aims to do just that and develop critical thinking and problem solving skills in children.
In that endeavor, we try to keep in projects which teach kids about scientific concepts or just gets them excited about making things with their own hands again. So there will be a DIY catapult in there as a part of a goal scoring game which teaches about the kinetic and potential energy or there will be a DIY ninja ball in there that’s just a fun project and teaches about the crafting with unusual materials.  Each month a new box with new projects will be delivered to the customer’s doorstep.

Who is behind Wonderbox and how did this idea transpire?
Two Hinas are behind this concept: Hina Jawed Palwala and Hina Naz Nagi. Both marketing grads from IBA.
During college, we were involved in various endeavors that promoted the arts or involved developing education models, and over the years we have engaged with a lot of students, schools and even adult literacy programs. We have seen firsthand the impact of tactile learning on how quickly a child absorbs a concept and how long they retain it.
So after graduation we brainstormed and decided to start a venture which focuses on this aspect of learning. I have always learned ALOT more outside the class than I did inside of it and I am a big fan of Steeve Spangler, Mythbuster and the likes. So we had an idea about the the kind of vision Wonderbox would have.
In the end we wanted to promote scientific literacy through fun learning methods. Basically make learning fun. Before we went commercial, we undertook a long list of projects ourselves and developed the projects to ensure they were meaningful and fun. We sent out test boxes to some volunteers to help us further improve the projects. Once that was done, we were open for business.

What can we expect from Wonderbox in the future?
We’ll definitely expand the range of Wonderboxes in the future. At the moment it caters to 7-14 year olds. We hope to target different demographics with different offerings that fall under the umbrella of our main theme.

Any message for your potential customers?
I think kids these days are glued to screens or buried in their text books. If this continues, that spark or curiosity in them extinguishes. I believe it’s necessary to get them away from their gadgets and involved in making things with their own hands again. Where they are actively engaged to solve problems and develop essential critical thinking skills. And I think the Wonderbox is a good way to do just that.

Can you guide our readers on the pricing and contents of the Wonderbox.
Each box costs PKR 1000 exclusive of PKR 100 delivery charges. We will also be developing a club for kids on our facebook page. Certain projects involve joining the club to see why something happened or what the correct answer to a certain question is. We’ll keep updating that on our page.
Other than that, There are around 5-6 projects per box. Each box has a mixture of crafts and science projects. So some are about crafting with unusual methods or materials and some are experiments explaining the scientific method. We try to keep a good mix.

Sounds really exciting doesn't it :D
Well I'm hoping for a Wonderbox that caters to mommys real soon ;)

This is the link to their Facebook page.
They have started their first batch orders so all of you mommies are on time :D

Wish you alot of success Hina Jawed Palwala and Hina Naz Nagi. And thank you for taking time out for me.

That's all from mommy hood Mondays you guys.. will be back next week with more awesome finds.. tips/ tricks and mommy hacks.

Till then happy mommying and lots of love.
Regards,
Dr. Mom Chef xx

DISCLAIMER: THIS is a sweet dish.. and so is meethi. . Please adjust sugar according to your preference in the peach mixture. I would suggest start with half cup of sugar and increase according to taste.

INGREDIENTS:

- 6-8 fresh, ripe peaches (about 5 cups), peeled and sliced
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted (about 1 minute in the microwave will do)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon cornflour

METHOD:

- Pre-heat your oven to 375 degrees.

- Pour melted butter in a 13 x 9 inch baking dish.

- In a medium sized bowl sift together 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 tablespoon baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Add in 1 cup milk and stir just until all ingredients are combined. Pour the batter over the butter. DO NOT STIR.

- In a large saucepan, combine sliced peaches,1 tablespoon cornflour, 1 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Bring this mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Pour the peach mixture evenly over the batter. DO NOT STIR.

- Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

- Cool slightly before serving.

- Serving suggestions: Ice cream (vanilla)

*NOTE:
- One option for modifying this recipe to make it less sweet is to use 1/2 cup of sugar in peaches. ( I recommend using half cup initially and tasting in increasing to taste)

- The order is correct. Butter, batter, peaches. During baking, the batter rises above the peaches!

- I used salted butter, made no difference.
- The batter will be runny, don't worry.

Enjoy xx

MINDCRAFT: AFFORDABLE ART, STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART.

Hello readers. . Long time no see I know.
Was extremely busy with getting things back on track.
But I'm back with a bang. :D The latest in the new entrepreneur series! MINDCRAFT STUDIO.
I'm sure all of us have this eye for art. I mean who doesn't want to beautify their homes/offices or workplaces with beautifully painted abstract or any kind of art. And on the other hand most of these pieces are really expensive to own.
Well.. not anymore :D
I came across this beautiful artist whose starting a venture based solely on the concept of affordable art. And her pieces are just like her.. beautiful inside and out. :)

As she is relatively new in the business she needs every bit of encouragement which I'm sure all of my readers will give. Take it from me when I say this.. This girl knows what she's doing. :) she was kind enough to answer some questions for me and also share some pictures with all of us. She is super skilled and her pieces are breath takingly beautiful and original and above all EXTREMELY POCKET FRIENDLY. Now that's my kind of art ;)

So let's look at MINDCRAFT STUDIO more closely shall we :D

What’s mindcraft?
Mindcraft Studio is the brainchild that happened when someone who had come over to my house saw one of my paintings and asked if they could buy it. Prior to that, I used to paint (and still do) as a hobby. Given my busy lifestyle with a full time job and a baby, I hardly get to go out and socialize, so I invested in a hobby that provided a creative outlet and it was something I could do at home, too.

Who’s behind it?
Behind Mindcraft Studio is Sundus Ghulam. I grew up in the Middle East and found myself in Karachi during my summer holidays at the age of 21, where I decided to enroll in a trainee program at a bank for a few months just for fun. Almost 8 years later, I ended up achieving a great career progression, got married, and have a beautiful daughter. Although my fulltime job and domestic responsibilities take up alottt of my time, I still felt unfulfilled from a creative perspective, which is when I started to revive my old hobby of painting.

What does Mindcraft Studio aim at?
My target audience is anyone and everyone interested in sprucing up their home décor. But what I’m really aiming for is customized wallart at *very* reasonable prices so that people can have unique pieces in their homes. I find that these things are quite expensive at big stores and even places like Sunday Bazaar. I want to offer a medium for people where they can create their own pieces through me in terms of color choices, sizes, design, etc. However, my work may not appeal to all audiences since my prime focus is abstract art.

What makes Mindcraft different:
I don’t think there are many such businesses operating from home in Karachi so I am aiming to change that with Mindcraft. Secondly, I don’t intend to make exorbitant profits out of this and want my work to be affordable for everyone. That includes university students who don’t earn, etc.

Future plans:
I am currently in talks with a furniture and home décor store in Karachi for stocking my pieces. Unfortunately when that happens (inshallah), I will not be in control of the retail prices at the store. However, I will continue to charge my regular prices if the orders are made from my page. Since the launch of the page, I have received a lot of positive feedback even though I am no expert by any standards. I intend to grow this page. I can also do abstract with any sort of message painted on it, for special occasions.

If you can share a few technical details about your work?
I work on canvases of ALL sizes be it 6x6", 24x24" or even 50x50". I primarily use acrylic paints and water colors. The paiting of the skyline was done using water colors for the buildig and acrylics for the background sunset. Some of my work also has glitter on it, like the sun's and sands piece.

Message to customers:
Nothing really. Just need support and appreciation even if you don’t order, lol

I would like to thank you Sundus for being such a sweetheart and giving us time. Also truly you're an inspiration for not just me but alot of other women out there.
Handling home, a kid, work AND pursuing your hobby.. WOW.

I wish you tons of success in your venture. And to all my readers I urge you guys to head over to MINDCRAFT STUDIO. The link to the Facebook page is here.

And let's show some support to motivate Sundus. :)
Keep up the beautiful work Sundus. Much love. Can not wait to own a piece by you <3
See you all with another entrepreneur real soon guys.

Dr. Mom Chef xx

THE MOST PERFECT VANILLA CUPCAKES

Hello readers!
So sorry I was MIA since almost 2 weeks. Abihu was down with a stomach bug and I was exhausted with travelling between khi and lhr.
Back now and inshaALLAH will be more regular :)
Don't forget we have a new entrepreneur this Saturday InshALLAH :D So stay tuned.
Today I bring to you.. The most PERFECT and EASY Vanilla cupcakes.
Now there are tons of recipes out there. . But this one is AMAZING, and rest assured.. perfectly tried and tested and hence, today's feature on TASTY THURSDAYS.
Don't forget to read the notes on the bottom. And have fun you guys <3
Have an awesome weekend.
Lots of love.
Regards,
Dr. Mom Chef xx

P.s. Originally the recipe belongs to Natasha's kitchen. And I give her full credits. Here's where I got it from.

INGREDIENTS :
- 1¼ cups cake flour
- 1¼ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1½ tsp pure vanilla extract
- ½ cup canola oil
- ½ cup buttermilk

METHOD:

Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a cupcake/muffin pan with cupcake liners.

- In a medium bowl, whisk together 1¼ cups cake flour (or Canadian flour), 1¼ tsp baking powder, ½ tsp baking soda and ½ tsp salt. Set flour mix aside.

- In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat 2 eggs with the whisk attachment on medium speed (15-20 seconds).
Add ¾ cup sugar and continue to beat on medium speed (30 seconds).

- Add vanilla and oil and beat on medium speed (1 minute).

- Reduce mixer speed to medium/low and slowly add about half of the flour mixture. Add half of the buttermilk, then the rest of the flour mix and the rest of the milk. Beat until just combined and smooth, scraping down the sides of the mixing bowl. The batter should be thin.

- Pour batter into a lined muffin pan. Fill to about ½ full.

- Bake for 12 -14 minutes at 350°F. Let them cool in the pan for a couple minutes, then remove.

- Once the cupcakes are cooled to room temp, pipe on the frosting.

NOTES:
- This makes 15 - 18 cupcakes.

- My oven takes longer, I always check with a toothpick, if it comes out clean that means they are done.

- To make cake flour, take out 2 tbsp of flour or maida from 1 cup and substitute it with cornflour. For this recipe 1 cup is made like I just mentioned and for 1/4 take out 1.5 tsp of maida/flour from 1/4 cup and substitute it with 1.5 tsp of cornflour.

- To make buttermilk. In 1 cup of milk add 1 tbsp of white vinegar and let it stand for 5 minutes. This recipe calls for half cup buttermilk so I just halved it.
